Agile coaches can help take leaders and teams on their Agile journey providing support and guidance

Firstly… why agile?

The Information Revolution began in the 1940’s with advent of the first computers.  Its focus on information and collaboration along with the massive strides in the world of technology, has required that organisations shift their work practices and behaviours in order to keep pace with the global market changes.

Agile is mindset shift that embraces the dial moving from visible, stable, defined work with a focus on quantity and structure to a world where change and innovation are embraced, quality is paramount and value is delivered quickly and incrementally.  This does not mean we throw away existing processes – it means we need to work and think differently.

This is a massive shift for some organisations.

What are the core values of agile?

Manifesto for Agile Software Development
We are uncovering better ways of developing software by doing it and helping others do it. Through this work we have come to value:

Individuals and Interactions over processes and tools
Working Software over comprehensive documentation
Customer collaboration over contract negotiation
Responding to change over following a plan

That is, while there is value in the items on the right, we value the items on the left more.

You cannot learn Agile, it is a mindset and set of guiding values and principles.  Your organisation and those in must assimilate this to ‘be Agile’.  You can however, learn the techniques and processes of lean Agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, XP, or a hybrid of these methods may be the best fit for your organisation.

So why agile coaching?

Agile coaches can help take leaders and teams on their Agile journey providing support and guidance, because this transformation is often done whilst delivery pressures remain high, it needs investment and an Agile coach or coaches is good way of providing a high level of focused support.  This can include:

  • Coaching and support for the transformation itself
  • Agile maturity assessments for organisations already on their Agile journey
  • Team through to exec coaching and mindset journey
  • Best Practice awareness

Agile Coaching is about how to enable people to respond more quickly, more qualitatively, and with less risk for business opportunities.  It’s specific to you, and what your organisation needs and is a powerful tool to enable you to succeed on your Agile journey.
